Mother's Day Keepsake Craft Idea: Handprint Bouquet

The steps in this activity are a great way to work on scissor skills, hand-strengthening, fine-motor skills, pre-writing skills, painting, hand-eye coordination, focus and concentration.

If there are multiple children in the family, each child's handprint can be combined into 1 bouquet.

Materials Needed:

• 1-2 pieces of white card-stock paper per child (2 handprints per page)
• 2 colors of paint (1 color per child or more if desired)
• 1-2 shades of green markers (for drawing stems and leaves)
• 1 colored craft foam or card-stock paper (can choose a color that matches or complements the handprint colors)
• 1 craft brad for each bouquet
• tape or glue stick

Instructions:

• Paint 1 hand and make 2 handprints on white card-stock (handprints will be used as flowers)

• Use excess paint to paint little hearts in blank spaces around handprints (these can be used as flower buds)

• Leave prints to dry

• Use green markers to draw thick stems (leaves optional)

• Once handprints are dry, use scissors to cut around handprints and stems (leaving some of the white of the paper as a border)

• Use tape or glue stick to adhere stems to back of flower and heart prints

• Grab craft foam or colored card-stock in the color of your choice

• Use craft foam to cut out 2 long and wide heart shapes (these will be your bouquet wrap) 

• Use a pencil to poke holes in each of your stems and heart wraps
• Poke the crafting brad through the holes to connect flowers to wraps (1 on each side of the bouquet)

Ideas for variations:

• Use green craft sticks or pipe cleaners in place of drawn stems
•  Place keepsake prints on craft sticks into an actual flower bouquet
