From the Archives: Popular Kids’ Blown Paint Trees Craft by Martha Stewart
We took a deep dive into the archives of Martha Stewart Kids Magazine to find the best seasonal crafts that families will love. This fun, fall-inspired blow paint trees project encourages kids to use their body, utilizes unique materials, and can be easily changed to be relevant during other seasons, too. Ramona from @happy_learning_moments gave her two children general instructions, and let them set up their crafting area using the materials in their space. For younger children, this project might require a little more setup, but it is simple enough for little ones to try (especially if you’re okay with a little mess!).
If you try this craft, we’d love to see it! Share your unique spin on this seasonal painting project with us on Instagram @guidecraft_official.
Instructions for a craft from the Martha Stewart Kids Magazine archives (Fall 2004):
B is for Blown Paint Trees
For tree-mendous art, kids can just blow through a straw!
What you’ll need:
- Straws
- Water
- Water-based paint
- Paper
- Paper towels
- Paintbrushes
How to make Blown Paint Trees:
- Mix one part water and one part water based paint.
- Set a sheet of paper on top of a paper towel.
- Paint a column of smudges using a paintbrush for a tree trunk and let paint drip from the brush for the branches.
- Blow lightly in different directions through a straw to steer the paint.
SPECIAL TIPS FROM @HAPPY_LEARNING_MOMENTS:
- To create leaves, pour a dollop of red, orange and yellow paints onto a palette (a dry erase board insert makes a great paint palette alternative!), then finger paint the leaves onto and around the branches.
CREATE A DESIGNATED ART AREA THAT ACCOMMODATES YOUR NEEDS AND YOUR SPACE
Homeschooling-mom Ramona from @happy_learning_moments created a beautiful art space in her home for her two young children using the Martha Stewart Kids’ Art Table and Stool Set in creamy white and versatile storage pieces from the Martha Stewart Crafting Kids’ collection. An easy-to-clean table, a damage-free way to store wet paint projects (like a display bar or a drying rack depending on the limitations of your space) and storage to keep playrooms organized will invite creativity.
