Block Play Area
No matter how large your block collection is, providing a space for children to spread out and build their worlds, both real and imagined, is essential to supporting the cognitive and language development of children. Block play also supports social-emotional development as children navigate building with siblings, friends and peers; but block-based structures inevitably fall and must be rebuilt, so children will also work through these challenges and opportunities as well.
Wood unit blocks inherently support mathematical concepts because they are sized proportionately to one another. The small blocks are half the size of the big blocks – so counting, comparison, shape names and geometry are all among the possibilities for children to explore with blocks.
